Strega's Needles & Hooks

This is my little piece of cyber space where I rant or rave, depending on my mood. Postings are whatever interests me at the time. Life with an Italian in Switzerland is interesting indeed! CLICK ON PHOTOS TO SEE ENLARGEMENTS

A while ago I got my first fiber from the Yarn Yard Fiber club. I spun up about 50 grams (a little less than 1/2 of what I received). It's BFL superwash and it's so soft. I knew I wanted socks from it but didn't want to use it all up so I plied it with some dark chocolate wool, also very soft, that I purchased at a local hobby shop here in central Switzerland.

I don't have a picture of the plied yarn, sorry! It just skipped my mind to take one, which happens a lot the older I get... forgetting, I mean. I need a string around every finger to remind me of things. But how can you knit with fingers full of string? At least I know I'm not alone with this malady so I take comfort in that.

I once started a pair of Pomatomus for me but they ended up going to a friend. In fact, I've knit this pattern 3 times already, with all 3 pairs going to friends. I wanted a pair of my own!
I didn't want to run out of yarn, so I only did 2 repeats of the leg pattern rather than 3. This one turned out okay and feels really nice on my foot. Now to knit the mate.

It's not an easy task to fling your foot up on a table and then contort your body to take a picture of your foot! Hmmm.. I guess I should change the tablecloth now before we eat on it, huh. ;o)

Lord you're blog is funny! You kinda have to live here to understand it, but I just keep reading and thinking yeah, uh huh, sure, that's the way it is. It's the only country in the world where you can tell your boss you were late for work because you had to wait for the cows. Not only will it be true, but he'll totally understand.

I just realize I don't talk about these things any more because it's just so normal. The whole cow thing is some sort of fest and I know people who reserve the day to go watch it. For some reason it seems to be fascinating to watch the cows come down from the Alps. Don't ask me why, but it is.

What I didn't know is that they don't use all of the sheep skins! I thought they did. Granted, I live close to Bern, so they probably do here. What do they keep the sheep for then? You don't see an awful lot of sheep's meat in the stores or anything. Odd.

I looked at I guess what is your older blog and wow! Those Snow Thistle Socks are fabulous! All of them are really, but I particularly liked them. Wow. Impressive.

Are you on Ravelry by the way? I'll be adding your blog to my reading list too :0)

Oh, and I'll pass the compliment abouthirbahina&me Riley on to my aunt. Not that she needs any ego pumping about her though! :P

The colors of those socks are terrific. The Pomatomus socks you sent me are still my favorites. Glad to hear you're finally getting a pair for yourself. :-)

Love your blog, and the passion for knitting. Was a great knitter once, and hve since moved on. But the feeling of slipping a stich over with clicking needles remains forever. Very therapeutic...
